Ross Stanley
- now regarded as one of the
best piano and keyboard players in London. Another ex-student of the
Guildhall, Ross is currently working regularly with a host of British Jazz
stars including Dylan Howe, Gareth Lockrane and Sheena Davis. He as also
worked with Ben Castle, Barnaby Dickenson and Jamie Cullum (to name a few)
and has exceptionally groovy fender-rhodes playing can be heard on a
newly-released album by the band "Pack Of Six" (see the "Links" page). |

Julian Jackson
- BackBeat Village bass player
and bandleader. In previous years Jules has worked both as a bass player and
drummer with Jamie Cullum, and more recently (on double bass) with British
Jazz legends John Dankworth & Cleo Laine. Lately he has also been working
regularly with Jacqui Dankworth as well as many other British jazz stars.

Jack Pollitt
-
now one of London's
busiest session drummers, Jack is an ex-student of the jazz course at
London's Middlesex University. In 2005 he played the drums for the
soundtrack of "A Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy," and since leaving
Middlesex he has also worked with Tom Jones, Lee Ryan (Blue), Roy Ayers &
Sam Brown, to name a few. Jack also works with an assortment of Latin
American bands, including Los Buendia, Manteca and the Robin Jones Latin
Jazz Sextet, and he has been a member of BackBeat Village since September
2003.

Simon
Golding - trained as a jazz
guitarist, arranger and composer at the Berkeley College of Music in Boston,
USA. He is a member of The Tarantinos and has toured supporting Chaka
Khan, Limp Biscuit and many more. He recently recorded an album of original
material with his Jazz Trio the Rough Ramblers and released the CD
Urban Dwellers with Jazz FM in 2001. Gig venues include the Hammersmith
Apollo, Brixton Academy and the Jazz Cafe.

Tipu Raza
-
original BackBeat
Village guitarist, and capable of producing the fattest funkiest guitar
grooves known to mankind. Tipu graduated from the Guildhall in 2002 and now
works as a freelance musician in and around London as a performer, educator
and session musician. In recent years Tipu has appeared in many top London
venues, including the 606 Club, the Vortex and the Barbican Concert Hall. He
has worked with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, and in June 2002 he
reached the semi-finals of the Perrier Jazz Awards.

Matt Spall
-
a relative newcomer to
the band, Matt moved down to London from Cheshire in 2004 to start the
4-year jazz course at the Guildhall. Matt is an exceptionally funky drummer
and is already building himself a reputation on the London scene. Amongst
other ensembles, he can be seen performing with the marvellous Brenthouse
Band.

Rob Gentry
- an excellent soul and jazz
singer as well as a superb keyboardist, Rob has been working regularly with
BackBeat Village since 2003. He graduated from the Guildhall in 2005 and can
now be seen working with many reputable musicians, perhaps most notably the
renowned soul singer Ola Onabule for whom he plays piano and keyboards.

Malcolm Edmonstone
- one of the finest pianists,
arrangers and composers in the country. Since the BBC1 hit TV show "Strictly
Come Dancing" came to our screens, a show for which Malcolm plays piano /
keyboards and arranges a substantial portion of the music, his appearances
with BackBeat Village have become slightly infrequent! Malcolm also works
regularly with the superb jazz singer Jacqui Dankworth as well has a host of
other well-known British jazz artists, in addition to being a member of the
jazz faculty at Middlesex University where he teaches piano and composition.
